Catch and Release ***. Cassidy added this to our Netflix queue. She said it was just ok.  I decided to watch it on a Sunday (during the US Open) and I actually liked it.  Timothy Olyphant starred in it.  Timothy isn’t the best actor but I just love his Clint Easwoodish presence.  It’s the first non killer character I’ve seen him play (Deadwood, Hitman, Live Free or Die Hard).

LBJ High School Class of 1980 30th Reunion

LBJ High School Class of 1980 30th Reunion

I’ve volunteered to help organize our 30th reunion.  We’re starting late and we don’t plan to hire the job out like we did for the 10th & 20th.  I’m confident we can do it ourselves with the technology available to us.  I’ve setup this blog to keep potential attendees informed.  I’ve created a group in Facebook for the LBJ Class of 1980. If you graduated from LBJ Austin in 1980 and are interested in the reunion, bookmark or subscribe to the blog linked above and fill out this form to receive the latest updates:  http://tinyurl.com/lbjclassof80

The Home Run

The Home Run

Liberty Mutual Insurance sponsors a website called The Responsibility Project.  It presents thought provoking questions intended to spark discussions.  I first heard about it when they advertised in the New Your Time’s Magazine Sunday Insert.  The ad was placed alongside “The Ethicist”.  I subscribe to The Responsibility Project in my newsreader.  The Project has several short films which are professionally done and very good.  The Home Run is one of these and if you have kids in sports, I highly recommend it.

District 9 *** NFK. This was a disturbing movie.  I mean the content and how it was filmed.  Much felt like a documentary and the look was grainy.  There was so much hand held camera work I think I started getting dizzy.  I’ve never seen anything like this movie and I actually enjoyed it quite a bit.

Unfriending or removing a friend from Facebook

Unfriending or removing a friend from Facebook

Certainly, you can remove a person from your friends list by following one of their links to their home page and scrolling down to the bottom of the left column and clicking “Remove From Friends”; but they could take it personally. There are other things you can do if you simply want to remove their wall posts from your wall feed.

Hover just the the right of a friends post and a menu item will appear that will allow you to hide that friend from your wall feed. The Hide command may only appear in certain browsers. It appeared in IE for me but not FireFox.

An even better method is to create a “Favorites” list and to select it as your feed source or move it to the top of the list of groups. You may have to select “More” at the bottom of your groups in order to be able to drag and drop to reorder each item in the list.

Taken ****. I really liked this movie.  Saw it with Cassidy at the theater.  I like Liam Neeson a lot.  That line in the trailer where he talks on the phone with his daughter’s kidnapper saying he will hunt him down and hearing “Good luck” had me sold.  Great ride with lots of action and tense situations.

Tennis Little State 4.5 Champions

Tennis Little State 4.5 Champions

My 4.5 USTA tennis team traveled to College Station to play in the consolation tournament named “Little State” for 2nd & 3rd place teams.  South Texas, 2 Fort Worth Teams and 2 Austin teams attended.  My team went 4-0 winning 5-0, 5-0, 3-2, 3-2.  I was 3-1 with three different partners.  The Tennis Facility on the A&M campus was nice. At least the main stadium area was nice with 12 courts separated by short fences.  We played 2 of our matches down a small hill where there were about 18 courts layed out very close together much like the UT intramural courts.    The sponsers did a great job.  Jane and the kids came.  They were real troopers because it was hot and muggy and there was not a lot of shade.
